Heh, I prefer .mkv for most stuff 'cause it's usually encoded with h.264, which is the best of the popular codecs for encoding anime, though some of the less known ones have their advantages. The problem is, most codecs are written with live action in mind, so their predictive capabilities (used for compression) tend to not work well on anime. >.< Anyway, the CCCP codec pack is probably the best way to play anime; it comes with all the codecs you need to play .mkv files, along with Zoom Player and Media Player Classic to play them, though most players should be able to play them once you've gotten the pack installed. VLC should also be able to play them. Anyway, if you can't get the subs to convert in .avi, I hope this info can help you. :-)

K-lite codec pack is good also.... Once u install it, u will have no problem playing any video/audio file from any player...
Moreover, it comes bundled with media player classic... Which have a simple design and is very easy to use...

woww..unbeliaveable...i have smt like this. i download a more than 1 gb file which i assume as ice age 2, but turns only a 3-4 minutes of some promo
(...it's really at a fantastic quality

Haha.. Do you need a HD LCD to really bring out the quality of those high quality videos?
25-02-2009 19:10:20
No, not really. Now, better screens will of course display it better (better yet if it's a widescreen video and display), but so long as it's not a monitor that belongs in the trash, you should notice at least some difference. If you don't, throw your monitor in the trash. :P

Plasma will of course bring out better quality then LCD (most of them) but plasma TV consume a lot more electricity...
These are just some of the difference...

what different between plasma and LCD
A quite lot of difference between them...
For what i can remember (and for typical comparision),
Life span: LCD will have longer life span (but one dead pixel will be a problem)
Viewing angle: Plasma have a wider viewing angle than LCD (however there more and more LCDs entering the market with viewing angles equal to or greater than some plasmas)
Pricing: LCD is cheaper
Energy consumption: LCD require less energy, helps save electrical bills (about 30%)
Black Levels: Plasma generally produce very black blacks whereas LCD will produce a very dark charcoal gray (although some better ones now produce black blacks)
Brightness: LCD are said to do slightly better in bright-light conditions than plasma
Popularity: LCD is popular for normal house hold
Quality:LCDs can give you better resolution, plasma still has the edge in terms of picture quality
This is a long tread... correct me if i'm wrong

Welcome... Some knowledge i got from the newspaper and internet...
There maybe more differences...![keke smiley of keke]()
Anyone knows of a good program that can convert .mkv files to .avi without significant lost in quality while not be too big in file size?

What u mean by lower time? The conversion time is too long?
I don't mind the conversion to be long. I'm only troubled by the huge increase in file size when i convert from .mkv to .avi

when it watching mkv file it kind slow i like avi than mkv
Yar, quite true... but .mkv files are really worth it. Graphics quality are really good.
Sometime mkv files lag until the subtiles don't syn with the anime...

To be totally honest, unless u are burning the anime to disc, i would not recommend converting the files(although they take up more space). The reason being mkv files can play equally well with good graphics card and processor. So just use VLC Player to play it and the necessary codes mention earlier ( CCP, K-lite, etc... Lots of them just google
).
Well, that's what i feel. Feel free to listen or simply ignore me.

Yar... i know that... I want to put it to disc to enable my dvd player (.avi) to play it...
Since the conversion will cause the file size to go up so dramatically, i don't bother to convert it already (not to mention the time needed)
