I think Total Video Convertor can convert MKV to AVI with or without subtitle.
But if you want to have full control of the quality and sub, I recommend:
+ MKV Extract: get file sub/video/audio from mkv files. Usually you will get subtitle file (.ass file)
+ Virtual Dub or MeGUI: convert to avi/mp4 file from .ass file and .mkv file

Try AlltoAVI. Tried it some weeks ago and its somewhat easy to use... though the resulting subs kinda suck... heard it can only do one font or something...

MKV and OGM is merely two different ways of packaging multiple streams in one file. So, i think it is the same.

ken2104, you can go to www.free-codecs.com to download many free codec to play defferent media files type. I recomented vista codec pack.
