I really like vampire knight, its a really good series, for both genders even (although mostly for females).
Then theres Reborn (shounen) Fushigi yuugi (Shoujou) Loveless (shounen ai), then skip beat (funny and shoujou), and the last series i can think of off the top of my head that i really enjoyed, is saiunkoku monogatari. It has beautiful pictures, and a complex story line.
There some of my favourites, although recently i started watching (recently by meaning yesterday) calles shiki. Its a new anime and it seems really good so far. Although its horror, the effects, music and storyline is really good.

Zero no Tsukishima -quite funny!

True Tears - Drama, Romance, School, with beautiful colors.

Rosario + Vampire - Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Romance, School, Shounen Was a great show, hope they make a third season...

One outs - Sports, Psychological, Seinen Very good baseball show, maybe better than Major...

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - comedy drama horror mystery psychological Cool show.
