We all like animes, that's the main reason we're here. With the advent of the Internet however, most of us watch high-quality free animes provided by great fansubbers and direct download sites such as this one. Heck, we don't even need to buy 'pirated' animes anymore. But as we all know, watching free anime obviously don't help the anime industry (a recent study suggest animators in Japan have relatively measly salary). An understandable reason for this situation is that it often take too long for the official release to come out in certain areas and even when it does, might not be available in those areas or it's simply too expensive (for example in my area, on average, an original anime DVD will cost 40-50% more than a Hollywood movie DVD).

So here are the questions, have you bought any original anime DVDs? If not, will you buy one in the future? And lastly, which anime(s) you would like to own an original copy of?

To tell the truth I have never bought anything original. I know it helps the companies which produce and so on but there is no need for me to do so. The internet provides me with everything other than some blu-ray rips.

Another reason why I don't buy the originals is that I don't have much money as a highschool student. A lot of the time all this merchandise costs lots money, if I were to buy all this I would have to give up on something else.

The blu-ray price in my country was too expensive and downloaded anime quality is sufficient enough.

It is not to imply that all should buy original animations because as we all know, a lot of animes just simply suck and not worth sh*t, but for that very few that one really really like and is going to re-watch multiple times, isn't it justifiable to own a legal copy of it, I mean if one can afford it and is able to find it?

I don't know about other peoples, but animes that I actually like so much as to be willing to re-watch multiple times are not that many and I do buy them when my budget allowed and the price reasonable (during sales for example). So far I've in my collection around 40 original DVDs and my future targets would include:

-Mushishi
-The Sky Crawlers
-Evangelion 2.0 You can (not) advance.
-Lupin III Episode 0: First Contact
