Aw, I wouldn't call Evangelion an ecchi per se, it's more like a given that there's some nudity in it cos' of the whole psychological concept but if it's ecchi for so why not smiley of I am number 1

The first anime that really hooked me is the Patlabor OVA & TV series back in the late 80s & early 90s. I was just an elementary school kid back then and was following the locally dubbed version of this series enthusiastically on TV. Couldn't remember what drew me to this series back then but I guess it just stand out as unique among the other mechas series of that period. Instead of the big space battles and super robot with god-like power piloted by a hot-blooded shonen characteristic of this period, Patlabor focused instead on the character developments and interactions, actions tend to take a backseat to story. The mecha (labor) too are highly realistic i.e. they are basically very advance construction machines/cars and like the machines in our daily life, they can be easily damaged and required regular maintainence.

I still re-watched it sometimes and it never failed to re-affirmed my passion for this series. Though it's animation may seemed outdated now (it's almost 20 years old now), I still prefer this series to the more glamorous series like Gundam or Macross and I think the human warmth one can feel from the characters has a lot to do with this lasting fascination. Well At least for my part ne. Don't think the younger generation would have any interest in old stuff like this but for those who care to try something unique, I highyl recommend this series. This is one true classic.
