Some of the anime series have mixed types of files... (example: mkv. and avi.) Why is this so, Admin? And which one you guys think is the best and most prefered? I prefered avi.
Admin, is it possible to have only 1 type of files for an anime title?

To answer your first question, I , myself, prefer MKV, because not only does it add the ability to have chapters, but it usually contains the 720p/1080p version, in other words HD.
Unfortunately, some groups are either inconsistent, or they decide to change the format. For example, One piece has half of its episodes in avi, while the rest are either mp4 or mkv.
To me, MKV > AVI.

I prefer MKV because it can be still viewed in HD as low as 60 MB . It's more preferable than mp4 than AVI actually.
But there are some noobs who complains about MKV because they show crappy subtitles. The reasons, they don't have Haali splitter and correct player.
If you're talking about saving space and giving out optimal quality, I recommended these format in order:
1]MKV
2]RMVB
3]MP4
4]AVI

I prefer avi than mkv, 'coz I can burn the avi files into a data dvd and watch it on standalone player.
I don't think mkv files can be played on standalone players, but more and more group are adapting mkv for their release...

aman44 said it all. All the possible file type besides MKV and AVI are available in many animes.
Personally i go for HD >>> MKV.
For Space saving >>> RMVB
For Burning to DvD >>> AVI
For some idiotic Subbers >>> MP4
That almost sums it up for the Anime file types.
Video players (My Preference)
1) VLC player
2) Real player
3) Windows Classic Player

MKV Is just a shell so there is difference in quality between MKV and AVI (although most of the fansub groups only encode to AVI for people with rubbish PCs so they lower the quality)
But MVK is better than AVI because of the chapters and software subtitles and also the ability to have one OP/ED per series and just do some computer wizardry to link them all up and save space.
I mean there is NO difference and can't seem to edit the post
