Souls in the Moonlight (1957-1959) [JDRAMA]

In this final episode Ryunosuke, a psychotic samurai, is in Kofu (west of the Japanese capital of Edo, as Tokyo was then known), where he is employed to test a new sword each evening by killing a passerby. But the ghosts of his victims begin to haunt him—and the brother of one is out for revenge. Once again, actor Chiezo Kataoka brings a complex sympathy to the character. As critic Tadao Sato remarks, “Ryunosuke Tsukue is an incarnation of suffering, not evil.”
